The People Quebec remains a predominantly Catholic province at heart, in its culture if not in practice. After experiencing four consecutive decades of secularization, Evangelicals comprise less than 1% of the Francophone population within the province. Here, where Catholicism has been so intertwined with society, expressing a personal faith in Christ is often seen as a rejection of family and culture.
The Need In addition to secularization, Quebec faces many growing negative influences: agnosticism, the New Age movement and cults. The youth generation learns nothing about the truth of the Bible in our contemporary school system and are thus especially influenced by these negative trends.
The Ministry In partnership with Aujourd'hui l'Espoir, TWR Canada shares the transforming message of Jesus Christ in French with the people of Quebec. Our primary involvement is in presenting a 30-minute weekly "Living Truth" program on radio, television and by Internet. In addition, our Quebec partner also produces the daily "Thru the Bible" and "In Touch" programs in TWR Canada's studio in Quebec City. Aujourd'hui l'Espoir staff answer calls from listeners 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They also handle listener follow-up and integrate new believers into local churches. TWR Canada is committed to raising the financial support needed to purchase air time on commercial stations across the province of Quebec.
Quebec Espoir 2008 In August 2008, TWR Canada actively participated in a major outreach effort in Quebec City called "Quebec Espoir 2008" which took place during the 400th anniversary celebrations for the founding of the city. During this outreach effort, our partners distributed almost 400,000 Gospels of John to every home in Quebec City and the surrounding area.
The Results God is definitely using this ministry to bring unity among Quebec churches and believers! The 2007 Bureau of Broadcast Management informed us that more than 45,000 people were viewing our TV program each week in Quebec City alone. Also, during March 2008, more than 8,500 programs were downloaded from the Internet, including 1,902 "Parole Vivante" programs that TWR Canada helps sponsor. Since more young people use the Internet, we can safely assume that the Word of God is finally reaching the younger segment of Quebec's population. This could only be the work of God.
"I received a Bible two years ago, but never read it. As I was exploring on the Internet, I came across one of your French programs. For the last six months, I have been listening to the program daily with an open Bible. I became a believer and turned my life over to the Lord. I now have the assurance of salvation. I'm contacting you now because of the changes the Lord is making in my heart! I now realize that I must join a church."
"I was recently saved while listening to your program, and joined a church shortly thereafter. I wanted to thank you for your ministry. It is a marvelous gift from God, since it is my main source of spiritual food. I am disabled, which prevents me from attending my newfound church regularly. Recently, you told me of books you can send me and Internet resources where I can learn more. I am happy that there are other tools to help me grow spiritually."
